Youth Court Access Worker Program

The Youth Court Access Worker (YCAW) assists young people ages 12 to 24 navigate the justice system. Funded by The Law Foundation of Ontario, the program provides support to youth and their families throughout the court process, ensuring equal access to justice.

WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR?

  • Youth ages 12 to 24 involved in the justice system 

  • Youth and families seeking support to understand and manage court requirements

  • Young people who need help navigating the justice system

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Help with Legal Aid applications, disclosure, and fingerprinting

  • Support in obtaining counsel or working with Duty Counsel

  • Guidance during bail hearings and court appearances

  • Assistance completing required programs or interventions

  • Referrals to community supports and services

HOW IT WORKS

  • Youth connect with a Court Access Worker

  • Worker provides one-on-one case management and guidance

  • Support is tailored to the youth’s court requirements and personal needs

Is there a cost to participate?
No. The program is free for youth and families.

Do I need a referral?
No referral is required. Youth and families can connect directly with a Youth Court Access Worker.

What happens if a youth doesn’t follow through with court requirements?
The program provides guidance and support to help youth meet their court obligations. If requirements aren’t met, the matter returns to the formal court process and may affect the youth’s case outcome.
