The Trusteed Youth (TY) Program helps youth ages 16–17 receiving Ontario Works (OW) who cannot live at home. Youth Workers from BGC Durham act as trustee, managing their financial assistance and ensuring funds are used to meet essential needs.
WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR?
- Youth ages 16 and 17 in Durham Region
- Youth who have been approved for Ontario Works who are unable to live with parents/guardians due to unsafe or unsupported circumstances

HOW IT WORKS
- OW caseworker determines eligibility
- Eligible youth are referred to BGC Durham for trustee support
- Trustee manages funds and ensures youth’s needs are met
- Youth maintain regular contact with trustee and stay engaged in school/programs
