Opportunity Changes Everything: BGC Durham Expands Access and Plans for Growth

Durham, ON – BGC Durham is proud to announce two exciting projects funded through Ontario Trillium Foundation grants that will have a lasting impact on children, youth, families, and staff in the Durham Region.

Through a Capital grant, BGC Durham acquired two new vehicles to expand transportation services and increase access to after-school programs. These vehicles allow the organization to safely transport up to 36 additional children daily, reducing its 30-child waitlist and ensuring more children benefit from enriching activities, academic support, and social connections.

Additionally, under the Ontario Trillium Foundation Resilient Communities Grant, BGC Durham has undertaken strategic growth initiatives to position the organization for the future. This project included:

  • The development of a strategic plan to guide organizational expansion over the next 5 years
  • The creation of a Staff Retention Strategy that addresses management structure, pay structures, policies, pay-for-performance strategies, and a pay equity plan

“We are thrilled to expand our transportation services while also planning for the future of BGC Durham,” said Marnie Smith, Executive Director. “These projects ensure that more children can access our programs today, and that our organization and staff are positioned for sustainable growth in the years to come.”
